The Italian League has today been thrown into disarray after in emerged that four clubs are set to be put on trial next week in connection with the allegations of match fixing. The four clubs AC Milan, Lazio, Juventus and Fiorentina all now face the risk of demotion. Italian Football Federation prosecutor Stefano Palazzi did not divulge any individual names but he said that a number of sporting figures will stand trial.
The trial is due to start next Wednesday at Rome's Stadio Olimpico, with the Italian Federation keen to reach a conclusion in the very near future allowing for the clubs to prepare for next season whichever division they are in next season.
I have to say that this is probably a very big distraction for the Italian national team at the moment because they are playing in the World Cup at the moment and that is the only thing that they want to concentrate on at the moment. Many of the players in the Italian national team are contracted to the four clubs.
