Sue Barker and Steffi Graf's 'mammaries'

A slip of tongue by Sue Barker as Steffi Graf left the Wimbledon Centre Court for the final time in 1999. Sue said

"As Steffi leaves the Centre Court for the last time, she walks away with some great mammaries."

The director rushed into the studio and said, "Well, at least you were right".

Is Martina Hingis a horse?

After victory in the Italian Open in 2006 Martina Hingis was asked about her chance of winning the French Open and her reply included the following quote.

"I've always said I'm a good horse but still an underdog. Though definitely this win in Rome will give my confidence a big boost."

Jelena Dokic not a good loser

Jelena Dokic lost her first round match against Rita Kuti Kis at the 2001 Australian Open. Dokic was none too pleased to say the least and afterwards said of her opponent

"Basically, I lost to a player that, you know, has never been a player and I guess probably never will be."

Tracy Austin didn't rate Steffi Graf

Steffi Graf made her professional debut at the age of 13 in Filderstadt on 19th October 1982. In her first match she was drawn against Tracy Austin who was ranked in the world's top 5. Austin won 6-4 6-0.

After the match the German media wanted to know what Tracy thought of their new star and Austin replied

"There are hundreds like her back home in the States."

Martina Hingis on Steffi Graf and the French

After her defeat in the 1999 French Open final to Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis said Steffi was

"just a runner who never gives up"

Also that the French crowd did not understand her tennis

"because I make it look so easy".

Steffi Graf hated grass

In 1983 after losing 1-6 6-3 6-2 to a player call Gregory in the 2nd qualifying round at Wimbledon in her first grass court tournament Steffi Graf said

"I don't want to play on grass ever again."

Maria Sharapova on Anna Kournikova

A few catty remarks from Maria Sharapova on being compared to Anna Kournikova.

"Thanks, but no. I want to be a winner."

"People seem to forget that Anna isn't in the picture anymore. It's Maria-time now."
