Wimbledon women's tennis news Day 12

As everyone thought, Serena Williams beat Vera Zvonareva comfortably to win the women's singles title. The final score was 6-3 6-2.

No luck for Vera Zvonareva later in the day when she and partner Elena Vesnina lost the women's doubles final to Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova by 7-6 (8-6) 6-2.

In my post on 25th June I mentioned the men's match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut who played the longest ever tennis match, 11 hours and five minutes and said that "Serena will probaly win the women's title and not spend that long on court all tournament".

Well, I added up the total of all Serena's matches and it came to 8 hours 36 minutes. That is just 25 minutes longer than the final set of that men's match.

Lucky 13: Serena captures Wimbledon crown - Tennis- nbcsports ...
Her first time in a Grand Slam final wasn't the charm for Vera Zvonareva, as No. 1 Serena Williams powered her way to her 13th major singles title, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win. ... Williams was kidding, of course. Maybe she also was joking when she said Friday that she'd prepare for the final by relaxing and watching the TV show “Desperate Housewives.” In the end, her victory over Zvonareva lasted only slightly longer than an episode — 67 minutes — and was rather short on ...
