Football says goodbye to Premiership legend

Paulo Wanchope has today announced his retirement from football after persistent recurrences of a knee injury. The Costa Rica international finished his career at Chicago Fire in the USA.

Wanchope, 31, played for three English clubs throughout his career including Derby, West Ham and Man City. Despite becoming unsettled at several of his clubs, that didn't affect Paulo as he still managed to bag 91 goals in his 281 appearances for his various club sides and a stunning 45 goals in 75 appearances for his beloved home nation of Costa Rica.

In an interview Wanchope said "I always gave 100%. Sadly, my last performances were far from good enough and I have taken the decision to retire, in the last six months I had to make a great effort to recover after games and training with my knee problems."

Farewell Paulo and even though most of us haven't seen you play in recent years we'll still miss you.
