Wimbledon 2010 Day 1

Not a good day for British Women's tennis yesterday at Wimbledon. The only bright spot was a good performance in losing by Laura Robson against the 4th seed Jelena Jankovic. Sania Mirza lost but it was a stroll in the park for Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin and Venus Williams with easy wins. The biggest shock of the day was French Open champion Francesca Schiavone crashing out.

Schiavone wins the French Open Final

I watched the faces of the two players as they were waiting to come onto court for the final and you could see who was the more relaxed. Francesca Schiavone looked to embrace the occasion but Sam Stosur was tense. It was a tension she never really lost apart from 3 games early in the second set when she took a 4 - 1 lead. That was the only time we saw the woman who had beaten both Justine Henin and Serena Williams in earlier rounds. On the other hand, it was a great display by Schiavone who played to her full potential and got her tactics spot on.
