Wigan Athletic have today sacked manager Chris Hutchins after only five months in the job. Hutchins was appointed after the resignation of Paul Jewell at the end of last season but a poor start to the season has seen the end of him. Funnily enough the last time Hutchins took charge of a club after Jewell he was sacked after five months at Bradford.
Chairman Dave Whelan said: "It is crucial for our development that we maintain our Premier League status. "Following results and performances in recent matches we feel it is critical to act now. It is in the best interests of the club and its long-term future."
Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Chelsea turned out to be the last game for the 50 year old. Already people are starting to speculate about the successor to Hutchins with names like Gary Johnson at Bristol City being mentioned quite frequently. I feel Dave Whelan may elect to try and get Paul Jewell at the club and I'm sure a lot of Wigan fans would be well behind the idea to bring back the man who heroically kept them in the Premier League last season.
