Mixed news for Spurs on the international scene

New Tottenham striker, Roman Pavlyuchenko has this evening helped Russia to an opening win in their first World Cup qualifier against Wales. The £14 million man put the Russians ahead mid-way through the first-half when he calmly put the ball beyond Wayne Hennessy from the spot.

Meanwhile, Spurs left-back Gareth Bale unfortunately missed a penalty just before Pavlyuchenko put the Russians ahead. His penalty was superbly saved by Russia keeper Igor Akinfeev. The game finished 2-1 with Bale grabbing an assit for Joe Ledley's strike during the second-half.
