Andy Cole has today decided to hang his boots up after a spectacular 19-year career. The former England international finishes his career as the second highest scorer in Premier League history after netting an incredible 187 times in England's top division.
Cole played for over a dozen clubs during his career which saw him score over 225 goals. Cole won the Premier League on no fewer than five occasions, all of which came with current Champions Manchester United. Other achievements include two FA Cups and one Champions League both of which came during his days at United.
His career ends at home town club Nottingham Forest where he made just 10 appearances, failing to score during that time. "It's not the ideal ending," Cole told The Times. "It just wasn't working out. I told them from the outset that I didn't want to go there to sit on the bench because I didn't want to be perceived as sitting back and making easy money.
What an outstanding career. Cole will no doubt go down in history as one of the greatest strikers ever to grace the Premier League and rightly so. It was a shame for his career to end on a bit of a sour note at Forest, but that's life. I wish Andy all the best as he moves on in his life and maybe we will see him in years to come in some form of coaching role.
