Boro take all three points in five goal thriller

Middlesborough took all three points away from Aston Villa in a five goal thriller. The game came to life half an hour into the game when Boro's summer signing Yakubu scored a lovely goal after Villa failed to clear a Pogetez cross and Yakubu was happy to knock it into the back of the net. Villa started the second half brightly and were rewarded with a goal on 50 minutes from young Villa star Luke Moore. But Boro went back into the lead just fifeteen minutes later when former Villa player George Boateng slotted home but Gareth Barry nearly cleared on the line.

But Boro all but ended the game when they were awarded a penalty but the tackle on Boateng looked to be outside of the area but Yakubu didn't care and he put his second goal of the game into Tomas Sorenson's net. Villa did score a consalation well into stoppage time when young Northern Irish midfielder Steve Davis scored a quality goal from the edge of the box. Final score Aston Villa 2-3 Middlesborough.

This was Villa's first home defeat of the season and they are now down in 16th place in the Premiership. Great away win for Boro after their mid week win in Europe and I fancy them to be one of the main contenders to finish in the top six. It was good to see Yakubu getting a double for Boro today and I for one hopes he goes on to score many many more.
