It was a day for Cup upsets, with four big surprises. They came at Ewood Park, The Reebok stadium, the Galphram stadium and Goodison Park.
Blackburn, Everton and Bolton all fell at the hands of lower league opposition.
Blackburn were emphatically beaten by Championship side Coventry 4-1. The goalscorers for Coventry were Elliot Ward, Dele Adebola and a brace from Michael Mifsud, the man who scored twice at Old Trafford in this seasons Carling Cup.
Everton were beaten by League One side Oldham 1-0. The match was delayed by half an hour after a fire in a chip shop outside the ground. Gary McDonald was Oldham's hero after he struck a superb 25-yard strike past Tim Wessels in the Everton goal.
Bolton were beating at the hands of Championship side Sheffield United 1-0. David Carney's first half strike was enough to send the Blades fans home happy.
Birmingham crashed out at League two Huddersfield 2-1. Luke Beckett put Huddersfield in front but just three minutes later the sides were level when Gary O'Connor scored. But Chris Brandon popped up with a goal during the second half to send Alex McLeish's side home disappointed.
