City set to sign £8 million striker

According to several reports tonight, Manchester City have completed the signing of Portsmouth striker Benjani after days of uncertainty about the Zimbabwian international's future at Fratton Park.

It all started last Thursday when City had apparently agreed terms with Pompey for the services of the 29-year old but the player missed two... maybe three flights to Manchester and the papers were not handed in on time to the Premier League.

The transfer depended on the outcome of Jermain Defo joining Portsmouth and that deal went through before the 12 o'clock deadline but it appeared as though the Benjani deal was dead in the water.

It was quite obvious that Sven was looking to bring in a new striker and he was desperate to sign Benjani and the deal was given hope at about Friday lunch-time when rumours started to spread that the deal may still go through.

And here we are now.

It appears as though Benjani has signed for City on a permanent deal although City have yet to confirm the deal. Benjani in my view is not worth the quoted £8 million. I mean he is 29-years old and you are only going to realistically get two maybe three seasons out of him and that is why I feel £8 million is too pricy for him.

But anyway, good luck Benjani!
