According to today's Guardian, Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is closing in on the signing of Zenit St Petersburg centre-back Martin Skrtel.
The Slovakian defender is believed to be worth around about the £4 million mark and Benitez reported to be very keen on the player and looking to wrap up a deal within the next week.
The 23-year old has made over 60 appearances for Zenit since joining them back in 2003. There is no doubt Benitez is on the look out for a new defender and Skrtel seems to be his man.
I personally don't know much about Skrtel but with the previous signings by Benitez in this particular position all failing, it begs the question, how will Skrtel do? I just hope for Liverpool's sake that this signing doesn't turn out to be another Pellegrino!
