Liverpool line up £18 million striker but rule out Villa signing

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez today admitted he is interested in signing Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, but he also ruled out any move for Valencia striker David Villa. It was reported earlier in the week that Benitez was keen to bring Villa to Anfield after a superb Euro 2008 but he has denied the rumours today.

Meanwhile, he did admit to wanting to bring Spurs striker Robbie Keane to the club. Keane, 28, spoke of his desire to play for Liverpool next season after supporting the club as a kid. However, Spurs boss Juande Ramos is keen to hold onto the Republic of Ireland international, but he could be tempted by the £18 million bid Liverpool are to make.

I personally think Keane would be an excellent signing for Liverpool. He has been at several clubs in his career but wherever he has been he has scored goals. I feel if Liverpool were to sign Keane and maybe one or two other players they could realistically push for the title next season.
