United and Arsenal given boost in race to sign £18 million striker

Manchester United and Arsenal have today both been given a boost in the race to sign Ajax striker Klass Jan Huntelaar. The player has today stated that he will not renew his contract with the Dutch club and would like to leave as soon as possible, which could spark a mass bidding war from United and Arsenal. The Dutch international has been linked with a move to England for over a year now after impressing at both club and national level. The 24-year old joined Ajax back in 2005 from SC Heerenveen and has since then scored just under 100 goals in 115 games for the Dutch giants, alerting both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Although I do feel Huntelaar is a terrific player I still think he has the potential to flop. £18 million is a lot to be paying for so young, but having said that you can't argue with his goalscoring record. I would be surprised if only United and Arsenal were going to bid for him and I would excpect clubs from all around Europe to fight it out for his signature.
