San Siro may be saying goodbye to AC

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has raised the prospect of the club leaving the San Siro. The 80,00 capacity stadium is shared by bitter rivals Inter Milan, and Galliani said it might be time for his club to build a new ground just for themselves. "Maybe it's time to think of two new stadiums for Milan," Galliani told the Corriere della Sera newspaper. "The first level was built in 1926 and sharing with Inter isn't easy. Their directors have different ideas to us." Galliani said he was unhappy with the general standard of Italian stadia, and that the San Siro was actually one of the "least worst" in the country. Itallian football has had a major drop in attendances in the last few months, and Galliani believes the quality of the stadia has been a contributing factor.


"Our stadium is among the least worst in Italy, the pitch is magnificent, you have a good view from the stands, the majority of fans don't get wet if it rains and it is easy to get to," he said. "(But at other grounds) you can't see much of the game, you have a bad view and if it rains you get soaked, as happened to 5,000 Livorno fans at Florence on Sunday who will have caught colds after watching the match in the pouring rain. We can't go on like this. "The way forward is to build new grounds because the majority of the current ones are neither saveable or able to be restructured. "It's obvious that as long as the stadiums are like this people will prefer to watch the game on television rather than go to the match." Milan played at five different grounds before moving to the San Siro in 1926, with Inter taking residence in 1947.

It would be intresting to see if AC Milan went ahead and built a new stadium and I would be curious to see what the capacity would be because they certainly haven't been filling the San Siro this season. The San Siro is around eighty years old and it is a beautitful venue and I'm sure any footballer would love to play their. I think the main reason in dropping attendances all over the world is because Television coverage and I believe that the television companies are slightly ruining the attendances at grounds.
