Lyon star Fred has rejected Portsmouth after both the South coast club and Spurs had bids of around £15 million accepted for the Brazilian.The 24 year old has been linked with a move to Boro as well and despite the Spurs having a bid accepted for him, it is thought that Gareth Southgate's men are very close to signing him. In a recent interview the Pompey manager said, "Fred? Fred who? There is no way we can afford Fred at Lyon. I think he's going to Middlesbrough anyway,".
It's not like Boro make £15 million signings everyday, indicating that the Teesiders will need to generate funds some how... most likely by offloading £10 million rated winger Stewart Downing to Juande Ramos' side.
