It has been reported today that Chelsea are set to make a bid for Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka. The player who has said on numerous occasions that he wanted to join a bigger club is set to be subject of a £12 million bid from the Londoners. Anelka has been linked with several clubs in recent months and it appears as though Chelsea are now leading the race for his signature.Anelka's departure has become more likely since the arrival of new Bolton boss Gary Megson after it was said that Megson would struggle to hold onto his star players. Anelka has had an impressive scoring record this season in a side that has struggled in the league and that has attracted the attention of Chelsea boss Avram Grant.
Chelsea boss Grant is likely to be without striker Didier Drogba for the African Nations Cup in January and I think Anelka will fit into Drogba's role perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised if any of the other sides who were interested in him earlier in the season comeback in for him in January. This move would also fulfill Anelka's ambition to play again in the Champions League.
