Italian giants Juventus are reportedly getting close to agreeing a pre contract agreement with Olof Mellberg of Aston Villa. The player's contract runs out next June and this has alerted Juventus and they are said to be very close to agreeing terms with the Swede. When Mellberg's agent, Anders Wallensten, was asked about the interest from Juventus he declined to comment.Apparently when Mellberg was asked about this speculation he failed to rule out a move to Juventus and that is why I think he will indeed leave the midlands for Turin in the summer. The 30 year old has been a great servant to the midlands club for over six years now and I'm sure Villa fans wouldn't hold a grudge against the player if he were to leave.
It would be a shame for Villa to not receive any money for this deal because he is worth a few bob. I really hope Mellberg signs a new deal at Villa Park but when a big side like Juventus come along it is very rare to see any player turn them down. Juve would offer Mellberg Champions League football and I think he is cut out for that level of football.
