According to reports in today's Daily Mail, Manchester United and Barcelona are likely to fight it out for Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm come the opening of the summer transfer window.The Germany international is widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in Europe and he has alerted the attention of both Frank Rijkaard and Sir Alex Ferguson with his displays for the Bundesliga giants.
The 24-year old has been with Bayern for over 6 years now and it has been speculated that he may want to leave the club and pick up a new challenge. It is thought that Bayern will only listen to offers of around about £15 million for the defender.
Lahm, in my view, is a terrific player that would be a great addition to either side. The first time Lahm really came to my notice was during the 2006 World Cup and I must say he had a terrific tounament.
