Arsenal make first steps to sign Liverpool ace

Arsenal have today made the first steps to sign Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. The Spanish international has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in recent weeks after falling down the pecking order at the club.

Arsene Wenger is keen to bring the former Real Sociedad midfielder to the Emirates as a possible replacement to Matthieu Flamini who has yet to be fully replaced. The Gunners have also been linked with Gareth Barry but Wenger would prefer to bring Alonso to the club rather than the Aston Villa captain.

Alonso, 26, moving to the Arsenal would be very intreaging. I personally feel Alonso is a quality player and he wasn't given enough first team football last season, so I think he could prove to be an excellent signing for the Gunners if he does indeed join them.
