Stewart Downing's on-off move to Tottenham finally appears as though it could be on. The England international is ready to hand in a transfer request at Middlesbrough tomorrow in a bid to push through his potential £15 million move to White Hart Lane.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is a long-term admirer of Downing's and he is keen to bring him to North London during this transfer window to strengthen his left-sided options. It was rumoured yesterday that Spurs angered Boro boss Gareth Southgate by bidding just £6 million for the 24-year old, however Redknapp remains hopeful of signing the player.
Despite Southgate's insistence in recent days that Downing was happy at the club and would remain a Boro player beyond this month, it is now understood that the player is now desperate to leave the Riverside. Personally, I believe it is only a matter of time before Downing becomes a Spurs player.
It seems as though he has been linked with a move to Spurs for years. Although I am not a big fan of Downing's, I think he could prove to be a real success at Spurs. He is still
young and undoubtedly has bags of potential and I feel under the guidance of Redknapp, we could see the best of the left-winger in the coming years (provided he moves of course).
