Liverpool will have to wait until the summer before they can sign Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey. The England international has been strongly linked with a January move to Anfield, however Rafa Benitez will now have to wait until July before he can get his man after Latics chief-executive Brenda Spencer confirmed the club are very confident of holding onto him (until the summer at least).
Heskey's contract expires in the summer and it was thought that Steve Bruce may look to cash in on the 31-year old, however it looks as though he will now leave for nothing at the end of the season. Liverpool are desperate to bring Heskey back to Anfield after nearly five years away from the Merseyside club and with Heskey also keen to return to the club, it now appears nailed on that the move will happen.
I am sure Wigan fans will be dissappointed to see one of their most prized assets leave for nothing in a few months time. On the other hand, I feel this is a terrific move for Liverpool. There is no doubt Liverpool could use another front man and I think getting Heskey for free will be a cracking bit of business by the club. Be sure to stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest on this and much more over the coming weeks.
Heskey costs just £4 million in this season's "You the Manager" and is definitely worth a look. Follow the link below to enter your team to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes.
