AC Milan have today joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant. The former England under-21 international has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield this month with his contract set to expire in the summer and Liverpool are keen to cash in on him now.
The 25-year old was close to joining Real Madrid in a £3 million deal last month, however Reds boss Rafa Benitez asked for more. That led to Real cooling their interest in the player although they are still understood to be monitoring the situation. AC are now ready to step in and have apparently offered the player a pre-contract, which would see Pennant become an Milan player during the summer.
I would be extremley surprised to still see Pennant in the Premier League next season. For me, Pennant has never really done much during his time on Merseyside and I am sure Reds fans won't be too upset to see the back of him. It would be a shame if Liverpool failed to get any money out of Pennant but I think that may be the case.
