Liverpool have finalised the move of Philip Degen from Borussia Dortmund but have lost Harry Kewell to Turkish outfit Galatasary. Long time reserve member Anthony Le Tallec has also completed a move away from Anfield to Le Mans while The Reds look to snatch up Gareth Barry and Andrea Dossena over the next few days.
Known for being an attacking minded defender, Degen joins Liverpool on a free transfer from the German side. He will be looking to cement a place in the right back position where he is competing for places with Steve Finnan and Alvaro Arbeloa.
Harry Kewell has left Liverpool also on a free transfer for Galatasaray where he has agreed a three year deal. Despite his previously stunning form for Leeds prior to his Anfield move, Kewell failed to make a big impact at the Merseyside club mostly down to an injury riddled five seasons.
Gareth Barry was fined and told to sit out of pre-season training by Martin O'Neill, so his move to Liverpool looks to be a certainty at this stage. After having a £15 million bid rejected for the England international, with their next bid they plan on putting in extra clauses to convince Villa to take the offer.
Barry's move may finally put an end to Xabi Alonso's transfer saga with Juve as the Spaniard could find it difficult to secure a regular place in the Liverpool eleven with Barry, Lucas and Mascherano competing for the holding midfield roles.
As a replacement for John Arne Riise who joined Roma last week, Liverpool's hunt for Udinese left back Andrea Dossena looks set to be complete in the next few days in a deal thought to be worth about £8 million.
