According to today's Times, Middlesbrough are interested in out of favour Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.The player has recently returned from injury but has yet to feature in this season's Premier League and he has been linked with several moves away from St James Park.
Newcastle have had an average start to the season and several players are said to be on the way out of the club and Ameobi is likely to be one of them.
The Nigerian born 26-year old has represented England at under-21 level but has yet to receive a full cap, unsurprisingly. I feel if Boro are looking for a new top class striker then they should look elsewhere.
It is likely that Boro boss Gareth Southgate will bid £4 million for the player and I think Sam Allardyce may be willing to accept, although Ameobi may not want to disappoint the fans by joining Newcastle's local rivals.
