Hammers target England striker after missing out on Bent

According to today's Daily Mail, West Ham are ready to end David Nugent's woeful spell at Portsmouth by offering the player the chance to move to the Hammers.

The former Preston striker has failed to settle at Pompey since joining them in the summer for a fee of £6 million and Harry Redknapp is looking to offload the striker.

Nugent, who of course has an England cap and goal to his name, was last season touted as the best striker in England outside the Premier League, but unfortunately for him it hasn't worked out at Fratton Park.

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is believed to be in the market for a new striker and with the club missing out on the loan signing of Darren Bent in recent days a move for Nugent could be on the cards, although I wouldn't be spending my money on him.
