Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Hertha Berlin defender Gilberto according to Bild am Sonntag.Gilberto has attracted the attentions of United boss Sir Alex ferguson and the club is prepared to offer the 31-year old a two and a half year contract.
The Brazilian born left-back said yesterday "I don't want to say too much about it. I have a number of offers, and perhaps I'll stay in Berlin. Or perhaps I'll go to England or Portugal or even back to Brazil. I am not worried,"
Gilberto joined Berlin back in 2004 and has made 14 appearances in the Bundesliga this season scoring once. The player can also play in midfield and would provide good cover for the United team.
