Spurs and Villa prepare to move for England striker

Tottenham and Aston Villa are ready to move for West Ham striker Dean Asthon after is was reported that the Hammers were looking to sell. The England international has had a torrid time with injuries this season, making only a handful appearances for Gianfranco Zola's men and it is now expected that he could be on his way out of Upton Park once January comes.

The 25-year old was previously linked with a move to White Hart Lane, however for whatever reasons he remains a West Ham player. That may be about to chance though. It is obvious for everyone to see that the club are in a spot of bother financially (with the whole Icelandic bank crisis and the on-going Carlos Tevez affair) so the club may be forced to sell Ashton come the new year.

Both Harry Redknapp and Matin O'Neill are both now keen to take advantage of the situation and if either was to bid £10 million for the player, how could West Ham turn it down. I think there is a real possibility this could happen, although I don't know whether or not Spurs or Villa will be prepared to spend big money on such an injury-prone player. I am sure, given the opportunity, Ashton would jump at the chance to make a fresh start at either club.
