Manchester City are closing on the world-record signing of Valencia striker David Villa. The Spanish international is understood to be the subject of a £52 million bid from City and it is understood that his agents will fly to Manchester later this week to discuss the move.
Villa, 27, has been linked with a move to the Premier League for years really. With Valencia's current financial troubles, it is likely that they will need to sell some of their most valuable assets in January, and Villa may be one to make way.
The former Real Zaragoza man played no small part in helping Spain win the European Championships last summer and even claimed the Golden Boot for the tournament. Since the arrival of Robinho at Eastlands, many of Europe's best players have been linked with a move to the club, however Villa looks a very likely arrival.
If City were to land the player for the rumoured £52 million, it would smash the world-record fee of £46 million which Real Madrid paid Juventus for Zinedine Zidane back in 2001. Wouldn't this just be amazing. Personally, Villa is a player who I have always admired and I would love it if he came to England. Could you imagine City having Robinho and Villa as a strike-force?
