Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has today told Real Madrid and AC Milan that Reds defender Dan Agger is not for sale. The Danish international has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in January after is was revealed that his demands for his wages to be doubled were turned down.
The 23-year old has made just six Premier League appearances for Liverpool this campaign due to the terrific form of both Martin Skrtel and Jamie Carragher. Agger only began to get a look in after Skrtel injured himself back in October, however with Skrtel likely to return later this month, it could mean the former Brondby man will have to settle for a place on the bench once again.
It was rumoured last month that both Real Madrid and AC Milan were preparing to bid as much as £10 million for the player but Benitez has today confirmed that Agger is happy on Merseyside.
The Spaniard had this to say : "He is very happy here. He is not playing badly, but he can do better. He knows he has not been playing at the same level he achieved last season, but I am still pleased with him. He is very competitive, and his only concern is how he can improve. His commitment to the club is 100% and he does not want to leave."
This can only be good news for Liverpool fans. If Liverpool are to seriously challenge for the title this season, they need to keep their best players and I feel Agger is certainly one of them. It will be interesting to see who Benitez picks to partner Carragher in the heart of the Reds defence once Skrtel comes back.
