Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is to challenge Rafa Benitez for the Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry. The England international has been linked with a move to Liverpool all-summer long but now Wenger admits he is interested in Barry. (Daily Mirror)
Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill insists that if anyone wants to buy Barry, they will have to cough up the £18 million price-tag. That has knocked back Liverpool's efforts to sign the 27-year old, due to the owners stance on the matter, however Wenger has admitted he wants to bolster his midfield options before the close of the transfer window.
I believe Barry is just what the Gunners need. After losing Akexander Hleb and Matthieu Flamini, Wenger is desperate to replace the pair and I feel bringing in Barry would be a quality signing, even if he will cost the club £18 million. I wonder if Benitez will re-ignite his interest now.
