After reading Guillem Balague's article about Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez being on the verge of quitting, I must admit, it doesn't surprise me. Benitez has been linked with an exit from Anfield before, when the American owners approached Jurgen Klinsman about taking over the hot seat at the club.
Benitez has had several fallen outs with the owners, due to their reluctance to cough up the cash for new signings, most notably Gareth Barry. The owners have stated that Benitez doesn't need to sign the Aston Villa captain because he already has Xabi Alonso, a statement which has caused much rumblings of another falling out between manager and owners.
Benitez apparently said the only reason he decided to stay is his respect for the fans and the people he works with on a daily basis. I am sure if Liverpool don't get off to a good start Benitez will be kicked out of the club by the owners but would Liverpool fans be happy about that.
I'm not sure. I mean he has brought the club to two Champions League finals, winning one. But he has never really challenged for the league and I personally feel with the money he has got from the owners he should of done better last season. Ok their was a lot of new signings and they need time to gel, but he spent over £5o million and was still nowhere near Man United.
Anyway, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Benitez not at Anfield by Christmas, one way or another. Either he gets the boot or he decides he had enough of the owners and decides to leave with his head held high.
