Liverpool are to re-ignite their interest in Espnayol midfielder Albert Riera. The Spanish international has been linked with a move to Anfield all summer up until Espanyol increased their asking price back in July.
Liverpool were prepared to spend as much as £13 million on the former Manchester City man, but Espanyol were holding out for nearer the £19 million mark. Riera, 26, himself is interested in a move back to the Premier League and Rafa Benitez is very keen to sign the Spaniard to answer his left-sided midfield problem.
Personally, I think Liverpool would be crazy to go back in the market for Riera. At Man City, he was decent at best and I feel at £19 million Liverpool would be wasting their money. A move for Riera would almost certainly rule out a Liverpool move for Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry, whom they have pursued all summer.
