Rob of the Rover
Robbie Fowler will complete his return to the premiership by signing a short-term contract with Blackburn Rovers. The ex-England striker, 33, has been training with Rovers since his old Liverpool team-mate Paul Ince took charge. And he has done enough to win an initial six-month deal, based largely on appearances, with the promise of a longer stay if he does well.
Ince has plenty of striking options and is likely to use Fowler mainly from the bench with seven subs now allowed in the top flight. But the Guv’nor is convinced his old pal — who has not played a competitive game in 10 months — has not lost his goal knack.
Ince said: “We are close to doing something with Robbie. He’s been different class in training in the last few days.“Robbie is a Premier League goalscorer and he always will be, but the only issue is getting his sharpness back.”
I think signing Robbie Fowler on any sort of deal is a ludacris decision by Paul Ince. Don't get me wrong Fowler was a great player in his day but I think that day is long gone now.
