Tottenham have tonight ended their interest in Zenit St Petersburg striker Andrei Arshavin after months of speculation about a £20 million for the Russian. Arshavin has become one of the hottest properties in Europe after his sensational performances for Russia in the European Championships two months ago.
His preferred destination was at first Barcelona but after a while he started to warm to the idea of playing in the Premier League, thus sparking interest from Spurs. Juande Ramos was said to be keen to bring Arshavin to White Hart Lane to replace Robbie Keane who left for Liverpool two weeks ago.
After holding out for £24 million, Zenit were understood to have lowered their asking price for the 27-year old, but Ramos is now looking for new acquisitions. It was thought that Spurs would only have to spend £20 million, but Ramos is having none of it and has apparently switched his attentions to Newcastle striker Michael Owen.
