Tottenham's move for Russian striker Andrei Arshavin could be completed as early as tonight after Zenit St Petersburg lowered their asking price. Spurs boss Juande Ramos has been after Arshavin ever since his superb displays for Russia in the European Championships last June. (Setanta)
It was understood that Spurs were only willing to cough up £16 million for the 27-year old, however Zenit were demanding at least £20 million. It now looks as though the two sides have come to an agreement and the player could finalise a move as early as this evening.
Arshavin has spent his whole career at Zenit, helping the side win a UEFA Cup last season. He has scored 47 goals in 217 games for the Russian giants and has 37 caps for Russia. Arshavin had stated his desire to join La Liga side Barcelona but they were not prepared to meet Zenit's asking price.
The signing of Arshavin would simply be superb for Spurs. After seeing Robbie Keane leave the club two weeks ago and now possibly Dimitar Berbatov leaving in the very near future, it was important Spurs got a good replacement in and I feel Arshavin certainly fits the bill.
