The transfers of Gareth Barry to Liverpool and Vedran Corluka to Tottenham both look dead in the water tonight, as both players have started their sides UEFA Cup matches. That means that both players would be cup-tied if they were to move, which makes both deals highly unlikely now.
Barry has started (and indeed has scored) for Aston Villa in their UEFA Cup qualifying tie against FH Hafnarfjordur. Barry has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the past few weeks and months, with an £18 million deal being touted.
Meanwhile, Corluka has started Manchester City's tie against FC Midtylland. It had been widely speculated that Corluka would complete an £8 million move to the North London side by the end of the week, but it looks as though now Juande Ramos will miss out on the Croatian.
